Coimbatore Weather
The precipices that encompass Coimbatore city are hoarded with dense green forest and the chilly winds find their way through Palghat gap during winter and rainy season. These ecological features of Coimbatore endow it with cheerful, affable and agreeable climatic conditions. Based on the ‘Koppen Climate Classification’, the climate of Coimbatore can be defined as tropical wet and dry. Both winter and summer are quite gentle and moderate here.
Summer sets in during the month of March and lasts till May. The maximum temperature during summer is reported to be nearly 39°c and it goes as down as 21°c. The highest temperature of Coimbatore recorded till date is 41°C and that of lowest is 12°C.
Winter promulgates its charms from December to February. This is quite a mild and pleasant season as temperature hardly goes as down as 15°c. Maximum temperature during winter scarcely crosses the limit of 32°C.
South West Monsoon reaches Coimbatore in June and drenches the city till late August or early September. 28% of the total rain showers pour during this period. North East Monsoon sets in during the month of October and soaks Coimbatore till November. 47% of total rain is gathered during these two months. The month of September is generally warm and humid. The average annual rainfall of Coimbatore is 700 mm. Apart from the rains; the water supply plants at Pilloor, Siruvani and Athikadavu satisfy the aqua needs of the district. The best season to visit Coimbatore is from March to September.
