How To Reach Coimbatore
By Air: ‘The Coimbatore International Airport’, placed at Peelamedu is located approximately 17 km from the heart of the city. This airport is facilitated with two terminals. One of them is suffices as the base for departure operations and the other, for arrivals. This is the second largest airbase of Tamil Nadu and the 11th largest airport of the country. The Coimbatore Airport provides a very good connectivity with major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Madras, Bangalore, Calicut and Cochin through domestic airlines. International flights are also operated from here that establish a link between Coimbatore and other foreign destinations such as Dubai, Bangkok, Kuwait, Doha, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, Muscat, Singapore, Colombo, etc. The chief airlines that cater services at The Coimbatore International Airport include, Air India, Jet Airways, IndiGo, JetLite, SpiceJet, Kingfisher Airlines, Silkair, Air Arabia, Air India Cargo, Kingfisher Xpress, Blue Dart Aviation and so on.
By Rail: ‘Coimbatore Junction’(erstwhile Kovai junction) is the major train station of Coimbatore. Situated right in the heart of the city, this railway head is furnished with 6 platforms. This is the second busiest railway station of Tamil Nadu and some of India's long distance trains pass through Coimbatore Junction. The trains running to and from here link Coimbatore with many important cities of India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Trivandrum, Kanyakumari, Calicut, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gorakhpur, Howrah, Jaipur, Indore, Kanpur, Patna, Jammu, etc. Other than the main Coimbatore Junction, the city harbors other two important railway junctions namely Podanur and Coimbatore North. Adding to that, other smaller train stations of Coimbatore are; Singanallur, Peelamedu, Perianaikanpalayam, Somanur, Irugur, Sulu and Madukkarai. Coimbatore Junction is regarded to be the second highest revenue generating stations of south India after Chennai.
By Road: State Transport Buses run by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala and other private buses connect Coimbatore with a number of major cities and towns of afore stated three states. The National Highways; NH – 47, NH – 67 and NH – 209 pass through Coimbatore. Avinashi road, Trichy road, Satyamangalam road, Marudhamalai road, Mettupalayam road and Pallakad road are the six major roads that interconnect different parts of the city. The city corporation of Coimbatore has set up and efficiently maintained a convenient road network of 635.32 kilo meters. The five important bus stands of Coimbatore city include Gandhipuram bus stand, Singanallur Bus Stand, Thiruvalluvar or SETC Bus Stand, Ukkadam Bus Stand and Mettupalayam Road Bus stand, Gandhipuram Bus Stand being the principal one. More than 800 intra city buses run on 228 routs of Coimbatore.
